The National Symphony Orchestra pays tribute to Mozart with a three-part concert series, and first up under the baton of Nathalie Stutzmann is the upbeat and instantly recognizable Overture to "The Marriage of Figaro", which has been heard in films as varied as "The King's Speech, Willy Wonka" and "Zombieland". Several of the NSO's esteemed principal musicians take the lead on Mozart's "Sinfonia concertante" for violin and viola, as well as the bassoon concerto. The finale for this Kennedy Center Concert Hall show is set to feature the fiery and fast Symphony No. 35, "Haffner," written for a friend of Mozart's father's and performed in Vienna in 1783 for an appreciative audience including the Austrian emperor.
